MEDLINE
NLM's premier bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system, and the preclinical sciences. MEDLINE contains bibliographic citations and author abstracts from more than 4,800 biomedical journals published in the United States and 70 other countries. The database contains over 12 million citations dating back to the mid-1960's. Coverage is worldwide, but most records are from English-language sources or have English abstracts. Currently contains approximately 2 million citations to articles from international biomedical journals from 1951 through 1965. NLM expects to continue converting citations from its older print medical indexes and to add these citations to PubMed. OLDMEDLINE citations have not been updated with MeSH Terms and they do not contain abstracts. There are variations among OLDMEDLINE citations in the data elements present in the citation as well as in their format, depending on the original source from which the citation was obtained. The Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health (CINAHL) database provides authoritative coverage of the literature related to nursing and allied health. Virtually all English-language publications are indexed along with the publications of the American Nurses Association and the National League for Nursing.Selected journals are also indexed in the areas of consumer health, biomedicine, and health sciences librarianship. In total, more than 1200 journals are regularly indexed; online abstracts are available for more than 800 of these titles. There are more than 7000 records with full text now included and 1200 records with images. The database also provides access to healthcare books, nursing dissertations, selected conference proceedings, standards of professional practice, educational software and audiovisual materials in nursing.
More than 10,000 CINAHL subject headings provide specific access to NAHL citations. Approximately 70 percent of CINAHL headings also appear in MEDLINE. CINAHL supplements these headings with 2,000+ terms designed specifically for nursing and allied health. You may access this database on OVID, by clicking here.
